“Thank You !”

When you see a snow-plow driver or pot-hole filler, please take a quick moment to say “Thank you”.  Sure, they get paid for their work; but there just aren’t enough compliments in this world . . . and with all the complaints we can come up with, you’ll really make their day!

How to get a street light or a lower speed limit

A petition signed by residents in the area supporting the request would need to be submitted to the Traffic Engineering Committee (TEC).  Once the TEC receives the petition they will conduct a traffic study on the area.  Once the traffic study is completed it will then go back to the TEC for their recommendation.  A copy of the recommendation and a letter indicating the date that it will be discussed at the City Council meeting will be sent to the person that submitted the petition.

The petition will need to indicate details on what they would like to have done along with the residents signatures and address.   CCC willorganize the petition and submit it on your behalf.

Say Hello

A summary of an article from Newsweek Magazine – Jan., 2007

The Importance of Being Neighborly – Thea Rhiannon, Bend, Or.

"Bill & I “struck up the kind of occasional friendship that people cultivate when happenstance makes them neighbors. We waved to each other in passing, shouted greetings, watched the evolving relationship between his dog and my cat.” Sometimes he saved me with jumper cables or hauled away the mountain of yard debris that moldered on my driveway for a month. Other neighbors received Bill's favors, too. We were all relieved when one day, after the paramedics arrived at Bill's house, they left empty-handed. Only later did we learn Bill had died. “My 8-year old daughter said it wasn't fair that we didn't get a chance to say good-bye. The lesson, I tried to explain, is to cherish all the chances we get to say hello."

Rock Island Positive

Former Mayor Mark Schwiebert said it: “The problem can be that we are the best kept secret around.  We’ve got a great product to sell and we need to do a better job of selling it.” To that end, CCC encourages you to accentuate the positive of Rock Island whenever you can. If you have something positive to tell others, send it to ccc @ricaring.org with “Positive” in the subject line.  We may print it in our next Newsletter!  Thank you.

How to Avoid a Stolen Car

You've probably heard this before but a safety-reminder doesn't hurt. Rock Island police urge you to play it safe and reduce the chances of your car being stolen over the winter. Many folks quickly step outside each morning to start and let their car warm up. This unattended running vehicle is an open invitation for theft.
