Grow Your Own Teachers

Launched in 2006, the Grow Your Own Teachers (GYO) initiative is an innovative partnership of community organizations, higher education institutions, and school districts that supports parents, community members, and paraprofessionals in low-income communities to become highly qualified teachers in the Rock Island County.

The program is funded by the Illinois State Board of Higher Education.

Stand Against Cancer

The Stand Against Cancer program aims to provide breast and cervical cancer screenings for all women, particularly those who are unable to receive treatment because of economic hurdles. The program advocate reaches out to predominately minority and refugee/immigrant women through education, presentations and referrals. Women are able to receive mammograms and Pap smears on a sliding scale/free basis through referrals to local health clinics.

This program is funded by Rock Island Gaming Funds, Springfield Urban League, and the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend (Independent Physicians).

Project Thrive

Project Thrive is moving people in poverty towards prosperity. This county-wide initiative provides individuals in the Rock Island and Florenciente neighborhoods access to GED, computer and job skills training. Casa Guanajuato is home base for the Moline services.

The program is funded by the Doris and Victor Foundation with support from the Rock Island County Task Force on Poverty.

Hope Skills and Education Center

CCC provides youth and adults with access to GED preparation, homework help, tutoring, computers, mentoring and work readiness.

This program is funded with support from the Doris and Victor Day Foundation through Project Thrive.

Child ID

Child ID is conducted by trained police, volunteers and CCC Team members who fingerprint and photograph children for parent's records in case they ever become missing. It is available to school children, day care centers, housing projects, PTA functions, and at many community festivals. Started in 1997, the program is provided at no cost to participants and provides parents and other family members with an up-to-date photo and set of fingerprints for their child or children. The service is provided by request only. To schedule a Child ID at your next event, contact the Community Caring Conference office.

The program is funded with support from the Moline Foundation and various fundraising efforts.

Friends For Victims

Need a listening ear? Need help navigating through the court system? Need help with victim restitution? For more than 25 years, Community Caring Conference has been providing support to victims of crime and their loved ones, through education about victims' rights and services. FFV Advocates are committed to taking steps which ensures help is ready during emotional, physical and psychological trauma. Services are provided at no cost.

This program is funded by the Illinois Attorney General's Office under a grant from the Violent Crime Victims Assistance Act, sponsoring churches and fundraising efforts.

Community Caring Conference Website Committee announces their new online Community Event Calendar submission request form. The Community Events Calendar accepts submissions for events of interest to Rock Island and Quad City residents. Do you have an event you would like to add to our community calendar? Click here to submit your event. Of course the Community Event Calendar is subject to our terms of service. Let us know of your local groups events!

Summer Youth Program

The Summer Program provides structured art, recreation and enrichment activities for school-aged children. Volunteers assist and supervise the children during activities, lunch and recreation time. Volunteers are required and encouraged to have previous experience working with children. All volunteers need to pass a background check and are required to attend a volunteer training before the summer program begins.

This program is a partnership between the Community Caring Conference and the Church of Peace in Rock Island.

Quad City Hero Awards Banquet

Now in its eighteenth year, the Quad City Hero Awards Banquet honors heroes nominated by their peers. The event is held the first Thursday in October at the Milan Community Center and is attended by more than 350 people. The annual event honors individuals, youth, businesses and organizations throughout the Quad Cities that have made outstanding achievements through their organization or individual deed over the past year.

NNO/Unity in the Community

National Night Out is an annual event held each year on the first Tuesday in August. The event is designed to:

Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness.
Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.
Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

NNO is sponsored by CCC, Rock Island Police, Rock Island Parks and Recreation, the National Association of Town Watch and Target. Funding from the Rauch Foundation also support the rally/picnic.

I-Witness Cards

If you are a witness to a crime or you think crime activity is occurring in your neighborhood, CCC provides an anonymous way for you to report criminal activity. Contact the office for more information.

This service is funded by the City of Rock Island and United Way of the Quad City Area.

Graffiti Busters

Graffiti in your neighborhood? Tennis shoes hanging over high wires? Both are signs of potential gang activity in a neighborhood. Residents are encouraged to call the POLICE first so they can track the possible activity and then call Community Caring Conference and we can help you clean it up.

Gang graffiti distracts from your neighborhood and sends the wrong message about the area in which you live. Volunteers remove graffiti from businesses residents' homes and garages. Community Caring Conference has a power washer with a high pressure nozzle to blast graffiti off some surfaces. However, this method has been known to damage older wood. Should this situation arise, we will cover up the graffiti by painting over it. These two methods discourage others from "tagging over the graffiti".

Community Caring Conference will need written permission from business and residential property owners to remove graffiti. Since its inception, this service has helped to deter crime in Rock Island.

Neighborhood/Business Watches

Neighborhood and Business Watches are proven methods of preventing crime. These Watches are designed to enhance security, increase observation and by getting to know others. It is people with neighborhoods and business areas looking out for one another. If you are in need of a Neighborhood or Business Watch, call CCC.
