“No....You Can't"

Rock Island Police tell us that they run into a lot of homeowners (and renters, too) who believe that “because it’s their property, they can do what they want.”  The truth is, NO . . . YOU CAN’T.

You can’t play your music as loud as you want . . . you can’t be outside after 10 pm using a louder tone of voice on your cell phone than normal just because it’s dark and you can’t see anyone and therefore figure no one can hear you . . . you can’t park your vehicle(s) anywhere you want (particularly ON your property) for as long as you want and not move them (they’re considered eyesores unless you cover them) . . . and you can’t ignore your dog all day long and then let it out in your yard and forget about it for awhile and not respond to its barking because its (usually) bored, according to veterinarians.

If you have such people in your neighborhood, the police urge you to call 9-1-1.  This call is more than just a life or death call—it’s for quick action.  You don’t have to put up with this.  It helps, too, if you know your neighbors well enough that they’ll call along with you because you’ll call on their behalf when they have a problem.  There is strength in numbers.
