New Block Club members have already knocked on doors and marked down names and numbers for their Neighborhood Watch packets. When told how efficient and enthusiastic their neighborhood is, one neighbor replied, "We live in a gret neighborhood and want to keep it that way!" This is how to improve your block - being knowledgeable, knowing your neighbors, and stayiing vigilant.
A neighbor has reported that someone broke into her garage, rifled through it, and then drove it (somehow) to another part of the city. Police say car thefts are becoming common and remind us again to keep our cars locked, our garages locked, and keep nothing of value to yourself in the car.
There are reports of people raking leaves into the street. Rock Island offers free bags and free pick-up of those bags through December 3rd. Those leaves not only make parking difficult, but clog the storm sewers. If you see this, you might reach out to neighbors and quietly remind them of free bags and pick-up.
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Center is lining up volunteers for their BIG annual Thanksgiving dinner for Sunday, November 21st. Call 732-2999 to help.
Washington Jr. High needs volunteers to help at its Fall Clean-Up Day, Saturday, November 13th from 9 am - noon. Leaves will be raked, bushes trimmed, flowers transplanted, branches picked up. Lunch provided afterwards. Volunteers should bring their own tools.
